Ceyx Loft is a small operation managed by me, Ceyx Torado. My lofts are located in West Sacramento, CA. Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury of keeping my pigeons on my property, so the lofts and pigeons reside on the property of fellow pigeon flyers, Andy and Kim Johas. I would like to take the time to thank them for their generousity for letting me continue to enjoy this sport. I make about a fifteen minute trip every morning to feed, water, scrape, and loft fly the birds. It seems like a lot of work, but in the end, having a successful season makes all the hard work and extra driving worth it.
I fly with the River City Flyers or better known as RCF. Our club belongs to the Mid-Valley Combine which stretches from Sacramento to as far south as Turllock. We fly the north course. Most of our short to middle distance races are flown into northern California and over into Oregon. But in thelast race of Old Birds, our birds will fly as far as Toppenish, Washington. Our course is known predominantly as a speed course because it is flat and we frequently get north winds to blow the birds home. The speeds typically range from 1400-1600 ypm, but with a good tailwind the birds can easily reach up to 2300 ypm.
I first got into the racing pigeon sport in the fall of 2003. I started off with only two pairs of breeders. Definitely not enough breeders to breed me a youngbird team. But with the help of some local flyers I was able to get around 45-50 youngsters. Before the season started I trained early and hard. I followed a race program and stuck with it. Success was imediate. In my first year of youngbirds I managed to win the combine in both of my first two races. Here is what I accomplished in my first year of flying:
